TREESCAPE - failed stem on roof

We received an urgent call that a branch had fallen onto a roof in North Caulfield during the storm on the afternoon of September 5, 2012. Upon arrival I found a large stem from a Eucalyptus nicholii (Peppermint Gum) approximately 14 metres long and 10 metres wide lying on the roof. Several branches punched holes right through the roof and into the laundry and lounge room areas of the house and numerous beams, rafters and tiles were also broken.

Recent root severance of significant tree

We were called to a site to assess a large Corymbia calophylla (Marri) located within a hospital carpark in Melbourne. The tree was assessed to be mature, in good health and approximately 60 to 80 years old. The tree was large with a height of 18 metres and a canopy spread of 30 metres and of high site significance.

Treescape Planting Tree with Helicopter in Toorak

The project was for Treescape to plant an Acer saccharum (Sugar Maple) in a raised garden area in a residence in Toorak, Melbourne Australia. The only access was from a grassed tennis court and onto a raised grassed area over columns approximately 7 metres above the tennis court, and a further 35 metres to the planting hole. It was decided a crane was not feasible.

The Elm Leaf Beetle is a significant pest of Elm trees. The beetle and, in particular, its larvae can defoliate Elm trees rapidly during the summer months and reduce energy reserves for next year’s growth.

Importance of mulch for your garden

Organic mulches provide raw material for essential organisms like earthworms that contribute humus to the soil. For organic mulches to be effective, they need to be spread to a depth of about 100 to 150 mm and you'll need to add a bit every couple of year as the chippings closest to the soil's surface break down.
